Open House season is underway at HVH! Our next Open House for 2009 will be Saturday, June 27 from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the home of Charles and Cindy Black.
At our next Open House, we will have an extra-large selection of hibiscus in 6" pots, along with our other plants sizes, and all our care products. As always, the Open House will feature a bloom display of both old and new varieties, as well as future seedlings and hopefuls. Charles and Cindy will be available to answer hibiscus questions. Come one, come all! We look forward to seeing old hibiscus friends and to meeting new ones! Everyone is welcome, no invitation needed! The gate opens at 11:00am.

The HVH 2009 Online Store is Open!
You can choose from the widest selection of the year right now and order hibiscus for shipping in the spring. This year's store features 151 hibiscus varieties, including 27 new varieties. This is the time of year we grow as many as we can of the varieties our customers have been requesting throughout the prior year. If you have been waiting for a particular variety, or looking for something new and different, now is the time when you may find exactly what you want.
As many of you know, the popularity of these exotic hibiscus results in many varieties selling out long before shipping begins in April. We do continue to restock the store all through the year, but we recommend reserving your hibiscus now! Plants are shipped in April, May, or June, when the weather is suitable all along the delivery routes and when the plants themselves are ready.
NEW! ~ HVH Houseplant Formula
Complete Nutrition for Indoor Hibiscus
At the request of our customers, HVH is now offering a new Houseplant Formula for hibiscus lovers who grow their hibiscus in the house. This formula is a complete nutritional formula for hibiscus, providing all the nutrients hibiscus need in the home environment to stay healthy and happy, as well as to bloom with colorful flowers with only the sunlight that comes through windows. We have provided the recipe for this formula to our customers on the Growing Hibiscus as Houseplantspage of our Care section for the last few years, but many customers have requested that we provide the formula pre-mixed for those people who don't have time to mix their own, or for those who have only a few hibiscus to take care of. So at long last, the pre-mixed formula is available!

NEW Giants Page!
Hibiscus with Giant Flowers
We now have all our "giant" hibiscus varieties gathered together on one page in our Online Store at the request of several of our collectors. "Giant" hibiscus are hibiscus that bloom with giant flowers (8-10" in diameter), but these are not necessarily hibiscus bushes that grow very large. Some "giants" do grow on large bushes, but most grow on medium-sized bushes. "Giant" refers only to the flower size, not to the bush size.

Growth Enhancer
Super Nova Growth Enhancer is an HVH-recommended care product for hibiscus that have been stressed by winter cold, drought, overwatering, pest attacks, or disease infections. It is systemic, added to water and poured into the pot or ground, and is the most effective hibiscus growth enhancer and stress reducer that we have ever found here at HVH. We use it on all our baby plants to increase their survival rate. We use Growth Enhancer on all the hibiscus in our "hibiscus hospital," with much better results than we had prior to using it. We give it to our outdoor hibiscus in the spring to pull them out of the winter doldrums, during the heat of the summer to help them fight heat stress, after a onslaught of rain that nearly drowns them, and after any stressful event, like the fires we had here in San Diego last yeear. The Growth Enhancer has become our most highly recommended products for kick-starting growth in hibiscus and for pulling hibiscus through any kind of stress.
Special Blend Fertilizer
Bring out the best in your hibiscus! High quality fertilizer helps your plants reach their maximum blooming potential. The ever popular HVH Special Blend fertilizer will give you big, colorful blooms as well as supporting leaf growth and root development. It also works for other flowering tropical shrubs such as bougainvillea. Allison G commented about HVH fertilizer:
